Volunteers Needed for Lane Audubon's Booth Operations!

If you'd like to help Lane Audubon in a big way but don't have a lot of time available, here are a couple of ways to get involved. We need one or two people to take over the Lane Audubon booth setup and takedown, as well as someone to coordinate the scheduling of booth staffers.

Booth setup/takedown involves delivering and erecting our portable booth, tables, and display materials at event and festival sites, and then dismantling them after the event is over. Setup and takedown require only an hour or two of your time, usually on a Saturday morning and early Sunday evening, a few times a year, typically in the months of April, May, June, and September. If you enjoy being outdoors in the morning and doing a little light physical activity (nothing too strenuous), this could be the spot for you. Access to a larger vehicle (a van or pickup) is useful.

If you're more "indoors" and have some basic computer and organizational skills, such as sending e-mail messages and putting together staffing schedules, you could help Lane Audubon by sending out announcements alerting our volunteers of booth staffing opportunities. After volunteers respond, you put together staffing schedules and distribute them to volunteers. This work usually takes only an hour or two and can be done in your own home and at your own convenience six or seven times a year.

Orientation and training for these volunteer positions will be provided. It can be rewarding to work behind the scenes to help Lane Audubon spread the word about the importance of birds and their habitats. If you'd like to learn more about either of these positions, please call Ron Renchler at 345-0834 or e-mail him at christyandron (at) qwest.net

Monitoring at Delta Ponds

Volunteers needed for bird monitoring at Eugene's Delta Ponds

The City of Eugene needs your help with the fourth season of migratory bird monitoring at Eugene's Delta Ponds. This citizen-science project is providing valuable information about the migratory patterns of these birds.

Who
We are seeking experienced birders who are familiar with the birds of the southern Willamette Valley and who are willing to volunteer some of their time. Inexperienced birders can assist with the project and learn more about birds by volunteering to be a recorder.

Commitment
New volunteers need to attend one of the orientation trainings outlined below. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of four mornings of monitoring (roughly 2 hours each) during the monitoring period from mid-April through the end of May.

Trainings
Orientation trainings for new volunteers will be held at Eugene Public Works (1820 Roosevelt Blvd.). Trainings will include a brief project history, volunteer scheduling and monitoring protocols. Trainings are offered at the following times (dinner will be provided):

  • Wednesday, April 9, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
