Audubon Adventures Educates Lane County Students
Welcome to a new year with Audubon Adventures! Through the generous donations of Lane County Audubon members, our Adopt-a-Classroom Program offers free Audubon Adventures kits for classrooms! We have many sponsors eager to help and hope that you will participate in the program.
“Sharing Our World with Birds" is the newest Audubon Adventures learning kit for grades 3-5. Designed to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of the interconnection of natural systems, the new Audubon Adventures will explain the functions of birds, wildlife, and their habitats. These kits require no previous knowledge on the topic and can be put to use in the classroom immediately.
Our 2019-2020 learning kits will cover:
SHARING OUR SHORES
For many kinds of birds, beaches are places to nest and raise their young or to rest and refuel on long migratory journeys.
SEABIRDS: FEATHERED OCEAN MARINERS
Seabirds come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, and they have a fascinating array of adaptations for spending most of their lives on water.
RAPTORS! THE BIRDS OF PREY
Owls, eagles, hawks, harriers, falcons, ospreys, and kites—the diverse and charismatic birds in this group share physical features that make them the hunters of the sky.
Lane County Audubon Society offers these materials to teachers in Lane County at no cost thanks to generous sponsors! If you are interested in becoming a classroom sponsor, you can find donation information at the bottom of this page. If you are a teacher interested in receiving an Audubon Adventures kit for your classroom, please email Rachael Friese at audadventures (at) gmail.com
In addition to print materials, Audubon provides teachers with easy-to-access supplemental material online. These include instructional guides, learning assessments, quizzes, games, science education alignment standards, and additional resources for each unit. Our newest print Audubon Adventures classroom kit will include:
- 32 copies of each of our classroom magazine sets: Get to Know Birds, Hooray for Hummingbirds! and Birds Need Plants, Plants Need Birds
- Access to the digital teaching units on the three themes, plus ten other teaching modules.
- Opportunities to participate in service learning and community science projects, such as the Great Backyard Bird Count
- Classroom participation certificates
- Parent and Teacher Guides
Audubon Adventures can be easily integrated into the existing curriculum areas of science, social studies, mathematics, language arts, and creative arts.
Audubon Adventures classrooms receive a year’s membership to National Audubon Society and Lane County Audubon Society.
This very popular program is funded by the generous donations of LCAS members through our Adopt-a-Classroom program. We are pleased to provide a full set of Audubon Adventures materials to each student in sponsored classrooms at no cost to the schools.
