Extended Birding Trip - Walla Walla, WA

Audubon2Audubon Extended Birding Trip

September 3-6: Fall Migration. Blue Mountain Audubon will host us for an observation of migrating waterfowl and shorebirds along the Columbia flyway near Walla Walla, Washington. Expect some unusual vagrants. Bring a camp chair – it gets hot this time of year, so we’ll put our chairs in the river in the heat of the day and observe birds across the way. Cost TBA, approximately $300 for lodging, gas, and leadership. Food extra. Trip limited to 8.

All levels of birders are welcome, from first timer to expert. Questions? Contact Leila at leilas (at) ori.org or 968-5533.

Vaux's Swift Fridays - Sept 17 & 24

Bon voyage to Vaux's Swifts at Agate Hall

Lane County Audubon Society is holding its annual fall swift events outside Agate Hall on Friday, September 17 and 24 at sunset. Look for the LCAS banner at 17th and Agate Street. Stop by and enjoy this annual natural phenomenon. Call 541-343-8664 for more information.

Swift Watch Volunteers Needed
The East Cascades Audubon is participating in a state-wide effort to count Vaux's swifts at roost locations throughout Oregon this fall. I am looking for volunteers to scout out possible roosts and to count swifts at known roosts. We are focusing on Saturday evenings from Aug 28- the month of September.

This is in partnership with a West coast effort from B.C. to Mexico headed up by Larry Schwitters in Washington.

For more information on this project also checkout Oregon Vauxs Swifts.

Please contact Nicole Nielsen-Pincus in Eugene at nnielsenpincus (at) yahoo.com for information on roost locations or to volunteer.

Third Saturday - Sept 18

Shorebirds and coastal sanctuaries

It's time to get over to the coast for migrating shorebirds. We'll spend time birding around Florence before meeting up with Paul Engelmeyer at Audubon's Ten Mile Creek Sanctuary in Yachats. This will be an opportunity to see birds, learn about the sanctuary, and learn more about marine reserves as well. Bring appropriate clothing layers for coast, a lunch, and gas money for carpooling.

All levels of birders are welcome, from first timer to expert. This is an ALL DAY event. We will meet at South Eugene High at 19th and Patterson, rain or shine, at 7:00 a.m. and return by 5PM. A $3 donation is suggested, as well as a share of gas costs for carpooling. Please note: As a precaution, do not leave valuables in your parked car. Questions? Contact Leila at leilas (at) ori.org or 968-5533.
